Raccoon Removal
Raccoons are about the size of a small dog and are most noted for their black mask and bushy ringed tail. Most raccoons weigh 8-15 pounds. Raccoons are common throughout the state and occur everywhere there are trees offering the cavities they often use. They also tend to stay near a reliable source of water and are commonly found in urban areas.
Raccoons are amongst the most intelligent of Florida’s wildlife. They feed on fruits, plant material, eggs, crustaceans, small animals, and even garbage (this has given them the nickname “trash pandas”). They usually become active in the late afternoon and throughout the night but may change this pattern according to food availability. Raccoons can chew on wires, rip up insulation and create a mess with their droppings left behind. Not to mention the big hole they just ripped open to get into your house! Problems with raccoon infestations include:
-
Structures such as boards, insulation and other materials are destroyed when raccoon’s build a nest
-
Raccoon urine and feces can be toxic and if they spend an entire winter in the attic, you can imagine there is a lot
-
Since they are wild animals, they carry many diseases including rabies, which can be contracted through a bite
-
Raccoons can also infect your home with other pests such as fleas
Raccoon Trapping
Raccoons can be one of the most destructive animals that get inside homes. They often gnaw on wood, cables or electrical wiring and almost any stored item. The gnawing of wiring is perhaps the scariest damage they do – stripping the insulation from the wires increases the chances for a short and the risk of fire.

Raccoons aren't as sneaky when entering your attic as a rodent. A Florida raccoon can easily peal open several areas on your roof and make its way in. Often customers will call us and say "I heard what sounded like a person walking in my attic last night". When there is more than one raccoon in the attic, the raccoons often “wrestle” around. It can be pretty scary to hear it coming from right overhead If you suspect raccoons have broken in your home or you are hearing noises in the attic or walls in the morning or evening, you should give us a call so we can diagnose your problem, provide raccoon trapping and the necessary repairs to cover holes and construction gaps that may be allowing them entry into your home.
